Canadian Railroads > Via "Canadian" in 1991Date: 03/20/15 10:09 Via "Canadian" in 1991 Author: eminence_grise With the future of the "Canadian" again in doubt, I thought I would share some images from 1991 at Jasper AB. and Blue River BC.
Jasper was and is a great place to travel to and watch trains and enjoy the Canadian Rockies. In 1991, the eastbound and westbound "Canadian"'s met at Jasper, had a lengthy service stop and switching took place to add a locomotive to the westbound. Via had yet to eliminate the train crew, and in the second image, a Via conductor is talking to the engineer on the westbound during switching moves at Jasper. Finally, during the summer of 1991, Via ran the consist of the Jasper-Prince Rupert "Skeena" to Vancouver for servicing and operated it as the "Canadian" on the days the tri-weekly didn't operate, giving near daily service on the popular Vancouver-Jasper portion of the run. This option ceased as the older smooth side steam heat cars were withdrawn. Date: 03/20/15 13:31 Re: Via "Canadian" in 1991 Author: andersonb109 Looks like Tremblant Park on the rear? The only Park Car I've seen with the flat panels at the rear. Not sure the reason for the difference from the other Park's.
