Abysmal light, interesting leaders
Author: Mberry

It was sunny most of the day here in Montreal (witness KG's post) but by the time I got home at 5:30 it had clouded over. I knew three trains with interesting leaders were coming, so I went and shot them anyways, in Montreal West.

First up was CN 401 from Joffre Yard near Quebec City with CN 2124 (ex-UP C40-8) and CN 4775. The red really pops out on an overcast day. Next up was CN 323 back from Saint Albans Vermont with IC 1031 leading CN 2034. The black unit pops out rather less! With the light getting even more grim, I shot CN 874 (a grain train destined for the Port of Montreal) with one of the brand new 3000 series ES44AC's leading (CN 3030, with CN 2843 trailing). These are destined to be renumbered into the 2900 series as soon as possible. CN 3030 will become CN 2930.

It is still nice to watch a train go by even if you do not like the light.  Thanks for sharing.

Interesting that one of the secondhand C40's has an air conditioner on the cab roof and one doesn't.

Nice photos..Now we see a view from the other side of the bridge!

Thanks for the continued submissions of Montreal area railroading.
