Derailment on New Westminster, BC, Waterfront
Author: Marcus

It was an unhappy Sunday for CN's 08:05 Ewen job.
One of its boxcars tangled with a switch on New Westminster's waterfront.
The train of two locomotives and 118 cars was left strung out
across road crossings and the Fraser River Bridge.
The Fraser River Bridge is a major bottleneck in the Vancouver area,
used by CN, BNSF, CP, SRY, Amtrak, VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer.

The train was proceeding toward the camera when it derailed.
There is a switch under the boxcar.
In the first image, railroad personnel confer on the ground,
while the fire department looks on from the top of the stairs.
The rear of the train can be seen on the Fraser River Bridge, the lowest bridge in the background.
The middle bridge is the Patulla road bridge.
The tallest bridge is for Skytrain light rapid transit.

How long was traffic tied up on the bridge?

The mayor posted a tweet with a picture and said it was cleaned up pretty quick....

Thanks for the other angle!
