MLW Monday CPR S-11

When Alco modernized their switcher carbody with the change from S-4 to S-5 they chose not to offer a version powered by the outdated 539 engine.  However, when MLW revised their switcher styling they did build some units with the 539 prime mover.  An example is CPR 6623 an MLW S-11 powered by a normally aspirated 660 h.p. 539 engine.  The new style MLW body, larger than the one used by Alco on the S-5 and S-6, would carry on as the 251 powered S-13 and RS-23.

6623 is shown at Hochelaga Yard in Montreal.  1968.

The maroon and grey paint scheme was so much more classy than the current all red scheme . . .
