Switching the sawmill at Vavenby BC, April 29th,2015

Many trackside sawmills in British Columbia have closed over the past few decades, often causing the surrounding towns to go into decline also.

It was nice to see ten cars of lumber being lifted by a CN freight from the Canadian Forest Products mill at Vavenby BC, a small community in the North Thompson River valley east of Kamloops BC on the CN Clearwater Sub. main line. Those three big units on CN eastbound train 412 were moving at 5 miles per hour on the industrial spur.

The Canadian Northern built their main line through here in just before WW1, but the community of Vavenby had already been established for a couple of decades, and is named for a UK community where the pioneer settlers came from.

Great photo.  It happens all the time on a model railroad but on prototype?  ... fantastic!
