Canadian Railroads > Sleeping Car Line Numbers on the CanadianDate: 05/19/15 13:27 Sleeping Car Line Numbers on the Canadian Author: DrawingroomA There has been some discussion about this and I have answered a question about the order of sleeping cars. The answer from me and others was correct at the time. Last week I saw the Canadian up close in Vancouver and noticed that the order of sleeping car numbers has been reversed from what it has been for 20 years or so. Today I checked with a senior VIA ticket agent in Toronto and it was confirmed that this change was not a "one-off." So sleeper #10 which has been the first sleeper is now the last one (other than the Prestige sleeper and Park car) and sleeper #22, usually the last one, is now the first. Most of us who travel frequently on the Canadian request our sleeper space to be near the Park car. My friends and I have a trip booked for June and long ago we specifically booked cabins in the rear-most sleeper #22 and now we will be at the other end. Reservation agents, by the way, still have information that the order of sleepers is the way it has been for many years. VIA needs to make sure the correct information is given out. The exercise walking what seems to be a quarter of a mile to and from the Park car wouldn't do us any harm, but for some people there is a reason why they need to be located in a certain position. I can't imagine booking a cabin on a ship in a preferred location (e.g. midships) and finding that they are re-numbered and re-located to the "pointy end."

I have been told the change occurred when the consist changed from winter to summer. The exact date I don't know, but that is traditionally the 1st of May. The date I first saw this change was Friday 8th May. Date: 05/19/15 20:52 Re: Sleeping Car Line Numbers on the Canadian Author: arwye Ah...crap!!! I just checked our boarding passes for our June 16 departure, Vancouver to Toronto and we are in car 222.

I even called when the train was enroute - when at Jasper. All were wrong and I was in front of the Skyine Dome - with a ton of dead head sleepers in front of me.
