An NS SD90 leading in Montreal, again
Author: Mberry

As is often the case, CN 394 for Richmond, Qc and interchange with the SLR got CN 529's power today. Today that means that an ex-UP SD90 (NS 7312) was leading, with NS 1104 trailing. The sun angle and the track he was on was far from ideal, though KG's recent brush clearing here helped, but it's not every day you can shoot one of these in Canada!

If you nature lovers are wondering what that light green vegetation at the left side of the picture is, it's samara clusters on a Siberian Elm tree (samaras are the name of the flattened seeds that get dispersed by the wind when they dry out). Here's a close up, taken from the same spot.

Can I ask about the ex UP unit?  Who bought them and are now running them?  I know that Fortesque Metals Group here in Western Australia bought four (?) ex UP SD90's which were reconditioned in the Eastern USA somewhere.  There was a few offered around the place.

What has become of HH's speech to the idea of rebuilding the CPR SD90ies.  Any movement there?

UP traded-in 100 SD90's on its last order of SD70ACe's last year.  NS purchased those units from EMD and EMD is slowly going over the units to make as-needed repairs, reinforcing the fuel tank mounting brackets, and deliverying them to NS.  So far, 67 of the 100 have been delivered to NS:
