Canadian locomotive horn requirement
Author: 251F

Since posting about the US requirement for locomotive airhorns,
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,3750584
I poked around on Transport Canada's website and found the requirements for Canada.
https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/railsafety/rules-tco76-338.htm

A couple things of interest.  Transport Canada has a seperate requirement for passenger locomotives and freight locomotives.
To illustrate the passenger locomotive configuration, refer to MBerry's excellent post and photos of the AMT ALP45DP locomotives.

Wonder why there are 2 Nathan Airchime K5 horns?  One (I don't know if it's right or left) is a regular K-5LL-CA and the other is a "dual port" K-5-CA-LS.  The dual port refers to the horn base on which the horn bells are mounted is split into 2 chambers.  This allows sounding either 3 horn bells (soft-K#1L, #1 and #3B) or all 5 horn bells (loud).

Note that Amtrak locomotives operating in Canada are exempt from this requirement.

Both horns use the same K series horn bells, K#1L, #1, #3, #3B and 4.

Freight locomotive specification is about the same as the US requirement, just minus all the measurement verbage.
