Scary thread headline. I thougth they were talking about the Budd cars on The Canadian! Thankfully not.

I thougt the same thing.

Why can't VIA continue to run the RDC's on the White River-Sudbury branch and then use what was running on Vancouver Island on the corridor route to Sarnia. Even after considering what the Vancouver Island service required and White River-Sudbury, there supposedly was a few extra Budd RDC cars. Does VIA know what equipment it has? They have done nothing but reduce frequencies, so there's definitely surplus equipment - be it Renaissance or Budd......

The only argument for a diesel and regular cars is reliabilty.
If you have ridden the RDC's you know the hydraulic drive can be problematic.

True - and VIA wanted to put the RDC's out in the wilderness on the Skeena route? At least White River to Sudbury is closer to Toronto if worse came to worse.

Increased Sarnia service is an obvious election year promise. If the Conservatives lose their majority, their pupil running VIA Rail will then do what ?
