Saskatchewan Adventure Part 3, Day 3, Motorcars
Author: CP9300

Day 3 dawned bright and sunny and a motorcar trip down the GWR's Fife Lake Sub was in order. As we met by the GWR shops in Assiniboia, it was relayed to us that there was a snag with setting the cars on at the yard and as such we would have to go south of town to set on.

1) Getting the bad news in Assiniboia.

2) GWR provided an escort in the form of Track Supervisor Pat. His hirail led the group.

3) List member Trevor Sokolan prepares our ride for set on.

4) Set on complete and waiting in line.

5) Safety meeting time.

6) Underway south towards Coronach.

7) After arriving in Coronach and turning the cars, it was a short walk for lunch. The Pioneer elevator still stands tall in Coronach. Sadly this is one of the few elevators along the line from the dozens that once stood.

8) The rear of the group.

9) The front of the group. I believe there were 23 motorcars this day with bookend highrail escorts.

10) Rolling along north of Rockglen through the fields of blooming canola.

11) Who said the prairies were flat.

12) Arriving back to our set on location to set off and finish up for the day.

It was a great first day for the NARCOA group with no break downs and only a minor hiccup or two. The GWR Fife Lake Sub is incredible and these photos do not do it justice. There are standing elevators at Rockglen and Coronach only if I'm not mistaken. GWR does run storage trains down this line and was loading grain at Coronach in the recent past. The cars pictured at Coronach in these group shots were storage cars. Hope you enjoyed day 3. More to come.

Cheers, A.J.
