Canadian Railroads > destination of CN U738 trains

CN train U73841-03 videotaped on 10/4/15 in western Manitoba had bitumen or oil from the tar sands in northern Alberta mixed with diluent that was loaded at Lashurn, AB.  My question is where are these 738 trains headed to - BNSF or UP at Superior, WI or a destination on CN in Louisiana and if so where.  Any help is appreciated,Dick EIsfeller

Just a friendly tip unless you're a granola eating Hippy with 12 years University education and still living in Mom's basement the correct term is "Oil Sands".

I am very well aware of the distinction.  Like it or not "tar sands" is the term mostly used in articles published in the States where I reside.  I may make the distinction on the forthcoming video - haven't decided yet.  I would appreciate comments on that question.  And yes I am a former scientist, granola eating hippie with only four years of education beyond high school, six "kids" and 16 grandkids.

And as so,eone who works in the oil industry, I resent and dislike the tar sands comment. It would be a shame to see the term used in a future railfan video.

I wasn't expecting to read such a humourous thread when I clicked on this.  Great job.  I won't use the term "Tar Sands" ever again even though that is what they called it when I lived in Alberta.

As someone who also works in the oil industry, and in fact loads tar sand into trucks every day, I'm neither offended or resentful of the tar sands comment.  

In fact, tar sand is what we call it, plain and simple.

As i mentioned earlier I have seen a number of articles IN THE STATES where tar sands in used with no harm intended.  What I would really like is help with the initial question - where do these U738 trains go - the Gulf Coast via CN all the way, or turned over to BNSF or UP ar Superior.

U738 Origin: Bruderheim Alberta
Destination: Brookhaven MS
Crude loads.

Thanks for the info.  That is what I thought.  I did point out in the narrtion for the first video that I am working on that both terms are used and that oil sands is preferred in Alberta.
