Canadian Railroads > Crossing The Fraser At CiscoDate: 02/05/16 01:04 Crossing The Fraser At Cisco Author: LKeithR Since CP was the first railway to build through the Fraser Canyon it got to choose the easy route, crossing the Fraser and the Thompson several times between Kamloops and Hope. One of the more spectacular crossings is at Cisco, about 5-1/2 miles south of Lytton. In this image we see a southbound (timetable west) CP freight crossing the river on CP trackage. The bridge in the background is CN.
The scene is a bit unusual because under the directional running agreement between CP and CN--in effect between Mission and Basque--eastbound traffic--compass north at this point--normally runs on CP with westbounds taking the CN tracks. In late November of 2011 my wife and I were on our way to Armstrong when we stopped at Cisco to see if we could catch a train or two. A light dusting os snow added a different perspective to the view...
