Spring medley

Three very different photos from two spring days.  The first is dedicated to Neil who shot everything from MLWs to The Canadian at this location in Ste Anne de Bellevue.  The second proves that, despite rumours to the contrary, I do shoot VIA trains.  The third proves that the CSX operates from Florida to Quebec.

Very nice! Where is the CSX photo taken and is it CSX track? Thanks.

CSX has track in Quebec from the border near Massena, NY to Valleyfield and Beauharnois, Quebec.  It's former NYC trackage that used to extend to Adirondack Jct allowing NYC/PC/Conrail to reach CP's St Luc yard in Montreal.  The track from Beauharnois to Adirondack Jct has been out of service for years and partly torn up.

Since CP's purchase of the D&H they no longer interchange with the CSX in Quebec.  CSX's connection to Montreal is only via the CN.  A daily freight in each direction links Montreal with Selkirk.  It terminates/originates at the CN yard in Montreal and uses CN track to Valleyfield and CSX rails south of Valleyfield.  CSX has recently opened a large intermodal terminal in Valleyfield and has a busy local freight business in Beauharnois.  Usually there are between eight and ten CSX locomotives operating in Quebec at any given time.
