Couple images of BCR,  RCL 683.  First image taken at Greening siding April 1977.  Second image taken at Williams Lake BC, October 1980. Note in the second image that the unit has fairly new paint job and the lighting stripe is changed on the long hood and also the number and lettering are of a different script than as originally painted.  Doug

Strange things, those.

Although cabless, these units had a control stand and conventional 26C brake valves and independent air brake controls, a fold down seat and electrical panel. Hence the side window.

Herewith a view inside the cab of a Carleton Trail Railway ex-BCR M420 at Big River Junction SK in 1999

Note the controller is a streetcar style device.

Omnitrax acquired both CN and BCR M420's, and in 1999 they were operating un-relettered on the CTR.

On BCR you could catch the B's running around a facility if you were paying attention. Occasionally you might even catch a hostler doing a radio check from one over on the Mechanical Department channel.
Here's a shot of 684 (The former RCL-684) "leading" M-420 645 through the yard at Fort St John BC in August of 1988. I asked the hostler to light the headlight for me....

IIRC the "streetcar controller" only had two positions. Idle and Run 1.
