I don't know how many sets are in the cycle right now, but there's a string of cars that's been stored in the siding and backtracks at Natal, just east of Sparwood, for over 6 months now. Probably rusted to the rails by now.

Teck Coal, which owns all five mines in the region, has already said it will close the Coal Mountain (previously Byron Creek) operation in late 2017. That's not on the Fording Sub, though. It's the only mine on the Byron Creek Sub. |
