High Sun and...
Author: cn6218

120 didn't get to the Halifax area today until 11:01, rather later than desired for optimal lighting at this time of year.  However the reflection in the calm water of Rocky Lake, near mile 14 of the Bedford Sub, made up for it.  ES44ACs 2830 and 2919 had DPU 2827 near the end of the train, about to assist with dynamic braking as they descended Bedford Hill to sea level.  The third photo shows the head end of the train rolling down the Transfer track to the yard office, beside the switch targets of the H-ladder in Rockingham Yard.

Very Low Angle Light

It was a different story when 121 finally left Rockingham this evening at 20:45.  At this time of the year, the setting sun shines almost straight down this stretch of track near mile 9, after the surrounding areas are in shade this late in the evening.  The daily westbound intermodal, 121, caught some of those rays, this time with former DPU 2827 leading.  A gap in the double-stacks, allows this view in the second image, of ACL boxes at the same location.  And finally before the sun sank below the horizon completely, the morning's leader and now DPU, 2830, came into view behind some loads of nickle ore from Cuba going to Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta for refining.

You mastered both high sun and low sun.  Too bad that 120 seems to have lost its motive power variety.  It's a parade of ES and ET44AC's

Here's the same train passing through St-Henri on Saturday morning, with a nice stand of chicory in the foreground and some new signal placement work in the background.
