MLW Monday Then and Now Part 2
Author: kgmontreal

Again forty years apart are two photos from Montreal.  The first was taken in 1976 as a pair of M-420 units led a trio of Grand Trunk (New England) Geeps.  The train was westbound at the de Corcelles Street level crossing the east end of Turcot yard and had come from either Island Pond on the GT or St Albans on the CV.  At that time CV and GT (New England) shared the same pool of locomotives.

In 1976 the east approach to Turcot was filled with trackage that included, from south to north, the eastbound main, westbound main, the "freight" track, various yard leads, and several tracks used for a maintenance of way equipment yard.

The second photo was taken yesterday of westbound CN intermodal train #149 at the same de Courcelle Street level crossing.  Only two tracks approach the crossing and these have been relocated north as part of the reconstruction of the Turcot highway interchange.  Turcot yard is gone, its container facilities relocated to CN's main Montreal freight yard.  The maintenance of way equipment yard was plowed under even earlier.  Trees obscure the houses on the north side scene.  Only the clouds look similar in the two photos.
