GEXR runs their freight through Guelph eastbound in the morning following VIA and westbound in the afternoon.  Ontario Southland comes up to Guelph in the morning and goes back in the afternoon.  CPR freight action is best viewed at Guelph Jct.

Is the CP a mainline or branch ? What kind of volume could I expect on the CP ?

The CP is mainline track and a jct with a branch to Hamilton at Guelph Jct.

Traffic-well thats depends on the day- say over a 7am-5pm weekday maybe 10 trains give or take.

The CP Guelph Sub. / Guelph Jct. is about 20 miles south of Guelph, closer to Campbellville.

In Guelph, the GEXR eastbound train 432 is an easy catch.  It typically follows the last GO train.

Ontario Southland starts at Guelph Jct. at 10:00 a.m., and will operate one or two trains to Guelph to work various industries and transloads.
