Wood Chips and a Work Train, Part 1
Author: loleta

1. The previous day (http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4126649) ended with a quick stop at Exeter to photograph the station, then I drove on to Lillooet for the night.
2. The first train running the next morning was a work train hauling dirt from Glenfraser to a work site near mile 168, a constant problem spot for the railroad. The hillside there is in a slow creep down toward the Fraser River; the highway below the railroad turns to is dirt for a couple of hundred yards, as pavement would just crack and buckle. So CN is hauling dirt to the site to build a platform for piledrivers which will attempt to somehow stabilize the ground under the railroad. Here's the empty work train at Gibbs, making its first trip north for the day.
3. Shortly before the big mill at Exeter began to ship all its woodchips by truck, an extra southbound, train 568, leads a long train from Exeter around the horseshoe at Pavillion.

4. Here's 568 meeting the work train at Glenfraser. Unfortunately--but understandably--the work train parked in the shade on what what was already a blazing hot day. This scenery north of Lillooet reminds me of the late great Modoc Line in northeastern California.
5, 6. 568 again, at two locations south of Glenfraser.

You mention it being a hot day; What are the dates of your photos and trip in this Lillooet area?  The shadows seem long so it is either early in the day or that is the days shortening/

Very nice photos.
Thanks
Rick
