Canadian Railroads > Fall in the CanyonDate: 09/27/16 16:34 Fall in the Canyon Author: BCR4619 This past weekend some friends and I set out for a day trip to the always stunning Fraser/Thompson River Canyons, I have not been up there in a while so it was sure nice to get out of the city and away from work to relax.
1. A short CN manifest lead by CN 2124 goes though the S-Curve at Martinson which is the start of double track into Boston Bar, BC 2/3. We headed for CN Martel (Railway E. of Spences Bridge) with the intention of shooting what we could along the way. We heard CP 8873 calling out Cisco so we decided to await him at Conrad. Date: 09/27/16 16:39 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: BCR4619 4. We heard CN 102 leaving North Bend and calling signals as it headed east so we awaited at one of my favorite spots just railway east of Lytton on the CP Thompson Sub.
5. CN 102 Navigating the canyon at the East end of Drynoch 6. Arriving at Martel the radio comes to life as a CN manifest calls clear to Martel Edited 1 time(s). 8. CN Tier 4 leading an intermodal though Martel a few hours later in the sun 9. A Parade of grain trains made up the next wave of traffic, one wide angle of the location Date: 09/27/16 16:46 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: BCR4619 10. Hey look, more CP GE's!!!!
11. Off to our next location a CN Intermodal / Empty grain train climbs the river grade east of Thompson. Unfortunatly the washed SD70M-2 was trailing! 12. CP DPU on a coal train exiting the rock sheds at Lasha. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/27/16 16:48 by BCR4619. Date: 09/27/16 16:50 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: BCR4619 13. What felt lke an enternity watching the sun come and go countless times, CN 713 finally showed its face in just the perfect ammount of light.
14. Waiting for the beer to get cold a CP stack train was not to far behind CN 713. 15. River cold beer, how can you say no! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/27/16 16:51 by BCR4619. Date: 09/27/16 16:53 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: BCR4619 We headed back to Spences bridge to finish the day off, a parade of 4 more westbounds concluded out photo shoot seen by the following three photos.
Enjoy! Date: 09/28/16 09:22 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: loleta Great photos at the tunnels, and bonus points for including a dog in one of your pictures.

Of course getting the light and the train at the same time is the trick. I'm long overdue for a Fraser and Thompson trip so these are very interesting.
The river shot at the rock sheds looks like something from the movie The Revenant, without the bear scene of course. t4p! Date: 09/28/16 15:37 Re: Fall in the Canyon Author: spdaylight Well worth the day trip . . . definitely some IOTD material in here . . well done!
