Not a GE in Sight
Author: cn6218

Not long ago, KG was lamenting the steady diet of GEVOs we seemed to be seeing on CN in Eastern Canada at least.  Last Saturday the trend was broken with 4 SD70M-2s on train 120 into Halifax.  Three up front (and even fairly clean) and the fourth as DPU on the 161-car train.  I found sunshine at Folly Lake for the first shots and video, and then had to come all the way back to Halifax before it cleared up enough for these two stills of the train at Birch Cove, and then winding its way through Rockingham Yard.  If you look really carefully, there are 3 other locomotives in the yard: a GP40-2L and GP38-2W hauling empty gondolas out of one track in the H-yard, and GP40-2W 9639 at the extreme left in front of the yard office.

Not sure what happened to the video thumbnail.  Right click in the black rectangle, and click "play".

We've had many fewer of new GE ES44 and ET44 units recently.  The western end of the CN system wants them.  There's a crazy scheme out there to run 250 car grain trains with the AC's.

Interestingly enough CN 148 also had a trio of SD70M-2's on the Kingston sub on Friday night. Normally that power would return west the next morning on CN 149. However no CN 149 ran out of Montreal on Saturday and the power went on CN X321 (with the power set up 2+1).

Excellent video!!

Watching that 161 car-long monster rollong by somehow reminded me of the reason Linda Lovelace was such a great golfer.

Those of us who are, shall we say, of a certain age, will remember her. Those who're younger than 50 probably won't.
