Rain intensifies the fall colours...
Author: Ray_Murphy

As Ken mentioned in his post a couple of days ago, we're into a multi-day rainy period here in Montreal. The good thing about it is that wet leaves make for more saturated colors (and we're about at peak as you can see). These pictures were taken from the Beaconsfield footbridge this afternoon.

The first picture shows a CN eastbound freight that included two TankTrain blocks I presume are returning from Maitland, ON. The halloween colors of the black TankTrain sets go well with the foliage.

Picture #2 shows AMT #53. Compare today's colors with those seen in this earlier thread:  http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4134439

#3 Shows a CP manifest freight that actually has an impressive line-up in these days of one- and two-unit trains: Three ES44AC units (8748, 8879, 8840) and a GP38-2 (3106) running in 3rd position.

#4 Shows the CP freight again.

#5 shows CN #327 with CSX power on its way to the US.

The first is CN 372 and the TankTrain cars are actually empties coming from the Lennox Generating Station near Napanee. This is a move which hasn't happened in a number of years. The loads come from Sorel.

Interesting. I wonder what the logistics of this move are. Does CN 372 act as a way freight and back in several miles to the power plant to collect the tank cars? The siding at the main line wye doesn't look long enough.

No, a local (CN 518) works the plant. CN 372 works at many places along the Kingston sub, presumably it picks them up at Brockville.
