Back to the Westlock Sub for a 4 Pack of Geeps
Author: tsokolan

Yesterday was not an ideal day for railfan photography. With low clouds and zero sunshine it looked like my time would be better spent anywhere but trackside. A tip from a friend sent me north of Edmonton once again to catch a couple of southbound trains on CN's Westlock Sub.

#1 Train L590 is classified as a grain lifter on the Westlock Sub, but today it appears as though the powers that be decided to have the train haul lumber instead of grain. With a pair of GE's in charge, L590 rounds the curve at Westlock Alberta

#2 The train I headed north for, the daily A418 with a quartet of GP40 models (of both the LW-2 and W-2 variant) near Hondo Alberta.

#3 A418 crosses the wooden trestle at Fawcett Alberta

#4 A418 passes the wooden elevator at Dapp Alberta. Although it was only 15:00, the skies had darkened to the point where I gave up the chase and headed for home.

Trestle shot is great. Seems like the chase was the thing to do, time well spent.
Remember, only 28 days until winter solstice.

All four in a different paint style... Nice catch and shots...

Are pics 2 and 3 from  a drone, or how did you get the high elevation?

Pic #3 (the trestle) is taken with a drone. All the other shots were from the ground. #2 was shot from a highway overpass enbankment.

I was going to ask about the difference in hue/colour/tint (not sure what the appropriate term is) with that photo compared to the rest, but I guess that explains it: it's a different camera. I'm relatively new to the DSLRs, and I know you can select for different light types, so I had wondered if you had changed something. Very nicely done.
