1974 Election Campaign Train

Justin's Mon & Dad in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, May 28, 1974 on CN Business Car #86.

Campaign Train Consist:
6523 FP9A
6629 F9B...
6526 FP9A
15300 Tempo EGU
9486 Baggage Dorm
Ingelow Sleeper
Iona Sleeper
Ingonish Sleeper
1376 Diner
Sans Souci Lounge
Mount Tekarra Sleeper
86 Business Obs

15300 was a baggage car with HEP equipment installed for 'Tempo' use in SW Ontario.....and probably used here to meet power requirements at the various stops for lighting, sound etc.

The 'I' series cars were 24 duplex roomette sleepers.....and probably used for the number of news reporters who would be aboard.

Pierre won his third term with a majority government in July '74.

This car is now at the Three Valley Gap  ghost town roundhouse in Three Valley BC if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't have it's original trucks though.

No....July '74 was his third term, winning a majority government.

That looks like Margaret standing alongside Pierre.  It appears the two of them used to travel by train quite a bit. 

This was apparently before she was hanging out with the Rolling Stones at Studio 54 and liberating the rodent that has brought fame to the corporate emblem of Canadian Pacific.

​The consist shows this as car 86.  The Government of Canada had a business car painted in CN colours but not lettered CN for the use of senior Government officials.
​The car you are thinking of is the Governor-Generals car, built by Hawker Siddeley in 1967, similar to a Tempo coach.

Wrong, Keith.  Trudeau won a majority in 1968, a minority in 1972 and a majority in 1974. He lost to Joe Clark in 1979 but won another majority in 1980. Four terms in all.
