Yes, those additional box-contraptions on the roof are for snowplow duty. both units have winterization hatches, located on top of the cetner-most rooftop radiator fan. At the time, CN's rebuilt F units had similar boxy structures to keep snow out of the intakes and open areas (like fan grates) when in plow duty. As DrLoco said above, both units have winterization hatches. Winterization hatches had a baffle that could be set to direct some hot fan exhaust back into the engine compartment in cold weather.
