Date: 03/24/17 09:50 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: LKeithR I'm sure the "event" is a crew change but the location (so far) has me stumped. I'm thinking it's somewhere on the
Clearwater Sub but I can't find anything that fits. Another possibility is west of Prince George. I spend quite a bit of time on Google Street View and that's definitely the best rail related image I've seen... Keith Robertson Langley, BC Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/24/17 09:53 by LKeithR. Date: 03/24/17 10:02 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: tq-07fan Here is my favorite (or favourite). The Pas Manitoba. The northbound trains to Churchill are supposed to be through here in 1:45 am to 2:30 am, three days a week. Here though the Google Car happened to show up for a daylight image of the Churchill train, unless it is the one that only comes to The Pas and turns around.

Jim Date: 03/24/17 18:41 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: cp1400 Looks like an eastbound on the Clearwater Sub at McLure with a crew change happening.
cp1400 Date: 03/25/17 01:19 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: LKeithR I first thought that McClure or Vinsulla were possibilities but I don't think it's either. Look at the width of that strip of green
between the road and the tracks; there's nothing like that at McClure or Vinsulla. Also, I think those mountains are higher and more rugged than those just north of Kamloops. I think the location is further north... Keith Robertson Langley, BC Date: 03/25/17 01:29 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: LKeithR Something about that location resonated with me so I did some more exploring and found the spot. Do I spill
the beans now or let others search for a while longer? Keith Robertson Langley, BC Date: 03/25/17 01:31 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: JPB Date: 03/25/17 02:32 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: JPB LKeithR Wrote:

GPS Coordinates for those who want a peek... 53.312790 -120.181484 Keith Robertson Langley, BC Date: 03/26/17 01:40 Re: Vicarious rail fanning with Google Street View cam Author: JPB LKeithR Wrote:

Here is the URL to the Google Map grid of downton McBride. If one clicks on the little gold guy in the lower right corner to illuminate the blue lines indicating where 360 degree street views were taken (in May 2012), a yellow "see inside" dot that is tracksideappears - that is the Via station / visitor center which you can tour (1st capture). Is McBride a regular crew change location? https://www.google.com/maps/place/McBride,+BC,+Canada/@53.3016207,-120.171648,16.5z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x538468ae353da9b7:0x44b89818fe1056ea!8m2!3d53.301347!4d-120.168461 Photo 2 is a view of the yard at Prince George (CN yard, not BCR yard I/m guessing) and photo 3 is taken from the Yellowhead Highwaysomewhere along the Skeena River between Pr George and Pr Rupert. Q: how many trains/day does the line to Prince Rupert see? From what I read, CN is doing a pretty good job of growing intermodal and bulk traffic to/from the port. |
