During the autumn there's an annual migration of Eurocargorail class 66s back home to supplement the resident class members which are employed on RHTT duties, keeping lines free of leaves. On Friday ECR 66249 was on the 6E84, carrying sand for glass making from Middleton Towers, near King's Lynn in West Norfolk to Barnby Dun in South Yorkshire, here at Ely North Junction.

I guess these sand cars are not bogie (truck) equipped? I think it may be the first picture I've seen of them.

Thanks, it's a good location.

Here's a close up of the 2 axle hoppers, there are two types, both classified PAA. They are based on a common design which are used extensively carrying stone but these are unique to this operation on account of the hydraulic covers keeping the sand dry.
