Mountain Railroading in the Southern France (4)
Author: McKey

For the fourth and last French mountain railroading thread for the time here are a couple of old 1 meter gauge railbuses. I think these contraptions are cool with their signs of rust and spent life. If you take a look underneath the X303, you can actually find a cardan axle connected to the car engine and gearbox from automobile. Both look suspiciously small, almost suggesting they were taken from the normal automobile or a very old bus / truck design. Much of the traffic still seems to be run by these railcars.

We start with the unit X306.

The plate says this unit was manufactured in France, judging from the rust it must have been a long time ago...

Next to the X303 side of the station.

How enjoyably simple everything once upon the time was, very far from today's DMU and EMU designs.

Thanks, for once someone is commenting French railroading subject...

I'm actually considering on starting a major series of French super high speed railroading (LGV, TGV, AGV, Eurostars, Thalys, Lyria, DB,...), if the subject sound interesting enough for a large enough number of people on this forum.
