snow on the continent
Author: leonz

Greetings my fellow European Board members.

My weather here in the frozen Eastern wilderness
at 347.47 meters-1,140 feet above mean sea level
with the snow receding ;^0
and terra forma warming.

Sadly mud season may be here sooner than
later in the Frozen Eastern Wilderness.

I was curious how much snow the Duetchbahn, Bernina and Brenner Pass
railroads were fairing with the snow and whether the self propelled
snow blowers were working in the mountains.

Sadly, here now we are reaping the whirlwind "we deserve" with our
interstate roadways we did not need.

Exactly what does the Interstate road system have to do with the rail operations or weather?

Nothing other than the fact
sixty years on we are
now going to be paying for
president Eisenhower's grand
plan to replicate the Autobahn
in the united states when we
already had a road system
along with air travel that
had already begun to destroy
the passenger rail network
in our great country.

The money wasted on the Grand Plan is money that
could have been used to improve rail service and
paid for many other programs.

To this day;

you still do not see trucking
companies paying real estate taxes
on the road they travel on.
The taxes these companies pay pail
in comparison to what railroads pay.

Further stating my point;

One should read the book "Internal Combustion" only
because it reads like a long murder mystery
showing how all the i's are dotted and the
t's are crossed describing how the inter city and intra city
rail system was destroyed by big business and battery companies.

It was in the low 60's today where I live in Germany. Little snow to speak of in western Germany for the most part this winter. Heavy accumulations in parts of Austria over the winter. The UK has been pummeled by storms with damage to some rail lines over the winter. Not quite sure if you were ranting or asking a question or furthering a conspiracy theory. Short answer is the winter was easier this year on DB.

Hello Crusader5619,

Thank you so kindly for the update on
the weather across the pond.

I was not ranting just commenting as
the United States Supreme Court has now
finally thrown the issue of "rails to
trails" to the wolves and hopefully
we will at least see more commuter rail lines.

Sadly we have not followed the European
example of simplicty in transportation
by using rail for passenger and freight traffic.

Someday we will come to our senses.

I am sure the Beilhack snow clearers are managing
quite well in Scotland, the Alps and in Norway as well
