European Railroad Discussion > Sir Nigel GresleyDate: 04/20/14 07:17 Sir Nigel Gresley Author: Hartington Yesterday, Saturday 19th April 2014, there was a steam tour through my local station at Castle Cary. We sit between two stations with many more facilities than us Westbury, nearer London, and Taunton where the line from Bristol comes in and continues south and west. Plan "A", published on various websites, had been for steam to be added at Westbury, in which case the whole train would have come through steam hauled. However, plans changed and we had Sir Nigel Gresley, plus support coach, early in the morning.

Agreed. But for mainline operations, they (Brits) don't have lines congested with 120 car freight trains. Date: 04/20/14 21:21 Re: Sir Nigel Gresley Author: Hartington We may not have 120 car freights but that doesn't mean the network isn't congested. One of the problems on our network is frequent, small, passenger trains. Another is trying to mix 125mph passenger trains with other trains doing 100, 90, 75, 60 and 45mph.
