European Railroad Discussion > Cornwall in the mid 1970sDate: 09/08/14 10:04 Cornwall in the mid 1970s Author: spflow I have just been scanning some old slides from April 1975, and came across these from a trip to the west of Cornwall (in the extreme south west of England). The pictures largely feature the Western class diesel-hydraulics. How the world has changed!
These three were all taken at St Erth station, junction for the branch to St Ives. The passenger train waiting to leave is an up express fro London, while the milk tanks in picture no 3 are being shunted from the siding on the down side seen in the second picture. Edited 2 time(s). Date: 09/08/14 10:14 Re: Cornwall in the mid 1970s Author: spflow The first rather poor photo shows the terminal bay platform at St Erth with the branch line train for St Ives waiting to leave.
Pic no 2 is from the window of a London bound train near Truro Pic no 3 is taken from the window of a through Penzance - Newcastle train, which I rode all the way to Sheffield, en route to Manchester. Note two parcels vans, the second being a former LNER(?) vehicle, and the second loco, a class 47 diesel-electric. Presumably they were not in mu mode? More of this in my next post!
