Lithuania: Some of the Old...
Author: McKey

Some of us may be aware that Latvia is traditionally full of 2M62 locomotives, all traditionally painted green. So for a change, here are two pictures of the two 2Te1116 beast from Gulbene, bathing in the summer's heat. How comforting looking in the middle of dark, wet and cold winter just starting...

It looks like this might be the end point of Latvian Russian gauge network on its northeastern corner. Narrow gauge line runs north of here between Gulbene and Aluksne, and the normal gauge next district southwest appears to be Madona. Wonder what the main products to move in Gulbene might be? Maybe some forest industry and possibly mining commodities? 2Te116s look awfully formidable for a branch line end point for any use.

Both pictures by Ilkka.

Basically the same angle as above. The Sillamäe Sadam (Sillamäe harbor) owned 2Te116 sports dynamic brake hatches behind the cab.

Otherwise it is pretty much the same Soviet-Ukrainean design.

I doubt Sillamäe Sadam any more have these units as the traffic flows are are running across the Estonian - Russian border in Narva almost solely by RZD.
