European Railroad Discussion > Italy: Two Locomotives with Same Number

Here they come: two E464 locomotives with the same road number from Italy. First one is of FS and the other of FER (Ferrovie Emilia Romagna). While those of you from North America may shrug your shoulders this is not a very common sight in Europe, where the road number is often running build number of sorts.

First picture shows FS E464-206 in Bologna.

Second and third show FER E464-206 in Bologna as well.

Since these were there during the same day and it was pouring rain, I doubt quick painting with brush would had been possible ;)

Aah, but photos #2 and #3 show FER E464-906 rather than E464-206, the E464-9xx series is set aside for the other Regional operators in Italy. Look closely at the small number on the side in photo #2.

SOO 6617, that is a good catch on the number, hard to tell at first glance they are not the same. Thanks for the clarification on that, I probably would have missed in his photo's also.
