Among the Germany's tourist railways is "Brohltalbahn" (Brohl Valley Railway), which operates 18 km (11 miles) of meter-gauge track between Brohl-Lützing and Engeln, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. Brohl-Lützing is located along the Rhein River, 27 km (17 miles) northwest of Koblenz.

Four (4) steam locomotives are on hand at Brohltalbahn:

• 11sm, 0-4-4-0T, (Humboldt, Köln-Kalk 348 / 1906), Mallet, serviceable. sm = schwere Mallet = heavy Mallet
• E 168, 0-4-4-0T, (Henschel 8915 / 1908), ex-Portuguese State Railway. Stored, not serviceable.
• ex-PKP 3906, 0-8-0 (Chrzanow 2135 / 1951), serviceable.
• ex-PKP 3913, 0-8-0 (Chrzanow 2248 / 1952), serviceable.

Since 2008, 11sm, the last original locomotive from the Brohltalbahn, has been under repair. On December 16, 2014, this locomotive was steamed again for the first time in 48 years. Its first revenue trips are planned for May 1, 2015.

I have fond memories of riding behind the Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum DR(KBayStsB) No. 98.727 0-4-4-0T in 1981 when I was stationed in Germany. It was a trip between Kahl AM and Schollkrippen.

1. Picture of it at the museum 13 Oct 1980.
