Credit where credit's due
Author: 86235

J D Wetherspoon is a British pub chain noted for the quality and relative cheapness of its beers and it's quirky locations and names. Here on London's Cannon Street station, adjacent to platform 1, they've opened a new outlet, the Sir John Hawkshaw, named after the civil engineer who, together with the architect Barry, was responsible for the South Eastern Railway's two transpontine terminals in London - Cannon Street and Charing Cross.

Although there's little of Hawkshaw's original station left, it was badly bombed during WW2, the twin wren style towers at the outer end of the former trainshed still stand over the river.
