Not content with a big presence in the U.S. and Australia, Genesee and Wyoming is to purchase Freightliner, the UK's second largest freight carrier. Also included are Freightliner's operations on the continent in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.

Oh Dear! so can we expect to see Freightliners locos and freight cars in G&W orange and yellow............hope not. It will be interesting to see how G & W's relationship with railfans in the UK will develop bearing in mind their attitudes in the US. Expect nothing and everything else is a bonus.
As for the business it will be very interesting to see what G&W brings to the party, but we've been here before with Wisconsin Central aka EWS. Only time will tell, watch this space.

Personally I'll see what happens, if G&W want to repaint one of Freightliner's tatty old grey 90s in yellow and orange I won't complain.

Hopefully they will keep the green and yellow paint scheme.

Everything G & W owns ends up in the orange/yellow and black.

As a GWR shareholder since the days their stock was trading in the low 30's, (about a decade) orange & yellow to me is the color of money.

As a railroad how would anyone characterise G&W? I don't think I've knowingly seen a G&W train or been alongside G&W property. Everything looks clean and well cared for, is that the case or just for publicity shots? How is their customer service, are they innovators? Great to get a sense of how Freightliner will grow under the G&W umbrella.

They already own one European Railway Undertaking, Rotterdam Rail Feeding. It is still small, but has been gradually growing.

All their stuff down here in Australia usually ends up with the orange/yellow/black treatment.

Freightliner also has operations in Australia too so that'll just be an expansion for GWA locally.

G&W's attitude about anything passenger in the U.S. is very hostile. Their answer is always NO, and please go away.

Yeah until they try that in Europe and get told to go away themselves. They won't actually own any track so they can't even consider such a position....

Amtrak operates to St Albans, VT on the New England Central, a G&W railroad.
