Rome, Italy, 1987
Author: lee_uintah

The date is September 26, 1987.  Location is about 20 Km north of Rome on the main line to Firenze (Florence).  Enjoy the clips.
I lived in Rome for 2 years.

I would have ridden that line in 1987, although I don't recall the equipment, but it was a local train, and the cars were not new. I nearly missed Rome because the train did not stop at Termini. Had I not gotten off at Tiburtina (hastily), I would have been in Naples before I knew it!

That line is now high-speed and has great service. One time I made it from Florence to my house in Rome in 2 hours -- including a bus trip from Termini.

I rode the high speed line from Rome to Florence and back in November. We went through what seemed to be a long tunnel. We were in it for several minutes at 250 km/hour. Do you know which tunnel I am talking about and how long it is?

The longest tunnel between Roma and Firenze is the first one south of Firenze, the Galleria San Donato (11,954m)(7.42 miles).
