Mayflower
Author: Hartington

Mayflower (61306 an LNER Thompson B1 4-6-0) operated an Oxford to Kingswear excursion today.   Three images

1) Approaching Frome (pronounced Froom) on the down train
2) As I walked back to the car I noticed this street name, wrong railway (Stanier was LMS and Mayflower is LNER) but Stanier was born not that far away in Swindon
3) The return journey at Castle Cary in the dark and rain

Steam on the main line. With no diesel? Oh the humanity!

Make the most of it, as of one hour ago West Coast Railway Company, the operator of most steam charters in Britain, has been suspended from operating by Network Rail. This follows a serious SPAD (signal passed at danger) incident at Wootton Bassett Junction. It was on the return of the train I shot with Mayflower on March 7th. This will have a very serious impact on the steam charter business in the immediate future.
