European Railroad Discussion > Estonia: Long Distance Trains Now and Back ThenDate: 05/06/15 22:59 Estonia: Long Distance Trains Now and Back Then Author: McKey Revieing long distance passenger services is easy: this category has been the same for at least two decades. Estonian rail network is built on Russian gauge, so connections for long distance on this small country are internationally to St Petersburg and Moscow. With Estonia just developing and Russian being in many respects underdeveloped what we see is ages old rolling stock, both coaching and locomotion. Both have gone through partial refurbishing but a very light one. And it now appears that since Crimean annexation to Russia patronage on this service has declined so that whole existense of this link is in jeopardy. Maybe this is one of the cases where trains give room to planes?
