European Railroad Discussion > Trains in the middle of the Baltic seaDate: 05/19/15 09:59 Trains in the middle of the Baltic sea Author: sventomas The narrow gauge network on the island of Gotland was abandoned in 1960 and the rails were torn up. A steam engine, a coach and two freight cars remained on display at Roma.
In early 1970 some enthusiast started to recover what was left and for about 30 years trains has been running for half a mile between Hasselby and The Oak tree. Last weekend the restored 4 miles to Roma went active again. I was on Gotland managing a Rotary conference. On Sunday 17Th may wife and I made a short break. I read från Tåg that the line building actually has quite ambitious plans with numrous more kilometers to be rebuilt. Sounds like a train tourist paradise to be! |
