European Railroad Discussion > The Czech Republic last week - it's not all grey!Date: 05/30/15 00:20 The Czech Republic last week - it's not all grey! Author: 86235 Spent the holiday weekend and the first half of the week in Southern Bohemia and Moravia, based in Brno the country's second city. I drove from Brno to Jindrichuv Hradec to see the 750 mm JHRD narrow gauge railway, which operates a public service over two lines using loco hauled stock and some remarkable looking railcars (unfortunately painted grey). Ceske Drahy, the state passenger operator, and CD Cargo, the principal freight operator, use blue as their prime colour. These were taken on Sunday and Monday.

Thanks for the pictures. David Date: 05/30/15 06:13 Re: The Czech Republic last week - it's not all grey! Author: Larry020 Nick
Yes, number three is the best. Downright artsy. The other two are interesting. The electric freight engine with no front coupler. Open air autoracks, which I haven't seen in America since the early 70's. All of the cars on the bottom of the rack were wrapped in white plastic. The second photo I had to think about. I think the angled front windows must be to improve visibility in certain areas, such as street running. The round windows gives it an Art Deco look. Thank you for posting these photos. ------------------------------------------------------- The electric > freight engine with no front coupler. It has a coupler, but it is a standard European hook and screw link, like almost every other vehicle has. Date: 05/30/15 11:56 Re: The Czech Republic last week - it's not all grey! Author: 86235 Thanks - open autoracks are generally the rule in Europe and yes, many of the cars, VW SUVs, were covered in plastic, I noticed that for the first time a couple of weeks back on a train of Land Rover SUVs passing through London. And, as spflow points out, the loco has a screw coupler
