European Railroad Discussion > Class 66s In Passenger Service ?Date: 07/02/15 19:30 Class 66s In Passenger Service ? Author: krm152 Class 66s are my favorite contemporary European diesel electric locomotives. I know they are normally utilized for freight trains. However, I would appreciate being advised if any are regularly assigned to passenger runs.
All comments appreciated. ALLEN Date: 07/02/15 21:50 Re: Class 66s In Passenger Service ? Author: rubblehead Your best chance to have a class 66 on a passenger train would be if one was booked to work a railtour charter train or as a visiting guest loco at a heritage railway.

There's a GBRf charity railtour on Sunday 12th July which features a 66 on the Norwich to Peterborough leg, apart from that there's nothing this month that is billed to include a 66.

I'm not aware of any class 66 (both JT42CWR and JT42CWRM) being used in passenger train service by any of the Central European operators. It definitely would be difficult to do so in winter, as it is lacking any provisions for train heating. Also, I'm pretty convinced that the equipment needed for selective side door unlocking / locking / closing is not present, which prohibits usage in passenger revenue service at least on German rails (as you are asking for regular assignments).
