European Railroad Discussion > Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coachDate: 07/24/15 12:02 Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coach Author: Stas This is not a hot news, but only now I got time to go and see VR's latest acquisition - double deck restaurant coach. Here is my walk around.

I note that it's going to Turku harbor to meet the ferries to/from Stockholm. Gerry

Date: 07/25/15 10:34 Re: Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coach Author: ironmtn The single seats appear to be of a similar concept to the old parlor car designs of the past in North America, but with much less legroom apparently when facing the window due to the aisle offset to the left as needed by the double seats on the right. North American parlor seats in the past were one and one on each side of the center aisle, affording plenty of legroom in any position in the rotating chair. Do the seats rotate on that large, round pedestal, as North American parlor car seats did in the past? Also, is a first class fare required, again as for US and Canadian parlor seats in the past?
Thanks for these fine, detailed images. Overall, I like the design and decor - bright, light, crisp and inviting. The overall design is not unlike Amtrak's Superliner Sightseer Lounge bi-level cars here in the United States, although they are "straight floor" designs without the raised sections at car ends. Many of us here on TO have spent a lot of hours in those Sightseer Lounge cars, seated in one of the fixed single or paired seats facing outward for a great view through the big, oversized windows. A fine way to watch the passing countryside. MC Columbia, Missouri USA Date: 07/27/15 05:49 Re: Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coach Author: marku51 Thanks for the photos. Are these going to become a regular feature on the trains? I'm in Finland in two weeks to visit and I'd be interested to see these. Usually we travel in the family area when there is one, but the trip from Helsinki to Turku is long enough to have a meal and this looks pretty neat.

Date: 07/27/15 18:48 Re: Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coach Author: tq-07fan I like the graphics with the bears. The whole car looks really good, inside and out.
Jim Date: 08/02/15 13:56 Re: Finland: ERd - double deck restaurant coach Author: McKey That is right! Having tried these, the seats can also be turned, so you can easily arrange more leg room and talk with the guy working next to you, and turn your back to the other side.

I've seen these cars even on the Turku - Helsinki trains, but there is of course no quarantee there would not be an older restaurant coach instead. They however have their interesting atmostphere too!
