European Railroad Discussion > Sweden: Rain in StockholmDate: 08/29/15 02:15 Sweden: Rain in Stockholm Author: McKey This is a picture story of one morning arriving to Arlanda airport of Stockholm, taking a local X60 unit south and hopping off in Solna, a busy junction before Stockholm's Central station. Solna has always been an interesting place with most Swedish types in active use to be found in just one hours, plus many past classes to be found sitting at the Hagalund rail yard right next to the station. To add interest Solna has a pretty nice curve visibility to south, with three tunnels. All you need to take pictures is to hop off the X60 and spend some time under the platform cover. If the weather cooperates, you can also take an escalator to overpasses just north and south of the place and see trains from another angle. Next time in Stockholm, why not give a few minutes to early morning railfanning on the platform in Solna?
1-2) Hopping off the X60 chances are you can see another of these Coradia Nordic Alstom built train stopping at the other side. Unit X60 6046 is seen here. 3) Early morning HectorRail pulled Transdev "Snälltåg" ("Kind train") is on its way from depot to Stockholm Central for a few hours dash to Malmö in south. Leading horse this time is HR class 242 number 516, Siemens ES64U2 "Taurus" mightily powerful and fast locomotive. It looks small but if you go next to it you realize how huge its wheels actually are. This loco is German classified as 182 number 516 and can be (and might be) used anywhere in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and possibly Austria and Norway. However on this track the SJ class and type Rc6 is accelerating on its northbound route past Solna. In stockholm the innermost platforms often are for local traffic while outermost are run by long distance services, often with full speed. Arrangements both keeps passengers safe and allows for easy change between local and long distance tracks and modes.
6) It has started to rain for real as the Arlanda Express X3 (Precoradia EMU of Alstom) #7 dashes by with full 200 km/h speed... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/29/15 06:11 by McKey. Behind can be seen once again shiny black SJ RC6 pulled service lining up for cleaning and sevage and fresh water treatment.

As #5 seemd to be one of the favorites, maybe I'll post some more interesting shiny black vehicles to follow. Something super rare in this series appeared in the middle of the rain... |
