Autumn in London
Author: 86235

All taken yesterday in NW London, the first at lunchtime, the others on my way home from work, next week the latter shots will be off the table until the clocks go forward in March :-(

Passing Camden Lock DBS 66 66168 on a train of box wagons from Barrington (Cambridgeshire) to Wembley, returning empty after depositing spoil (dirt) in the old chalk pits. This shot is also due to disappear soon behind canal side apartments. Double :-( :-(

Metropolitan S8 stock on an Uxbridge service, this stretch of the Met has recently had the speed limit lifted to 60 mph to take advantage of the superior riding and acceleration of the new stock

172 104 leads the 17:18 London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street (arr 19:11), first stop, at 17:55 is Haddenham and Thame Parkway (42 miles).

And it's the very best location - the Met and GC between Kilburn and Willesden Green, what could be more beautiful? I remember my daily school journey when our Met train would race a LNER class B1 or L1 on the GC line. Happy days!

Another good collection, Nik. I called at Camden last week - it's different!! Pity the photo will be hidden by a development of housing. Chris uk.

By chance I came across this old pic I took forty years ago at the same canal lock that is in your first picture, when Camden Lock had just been opened following the laying of HT cables under the towpath alongside the canal. In the background you can just see an old DC electric unit (class 501) in front of Camden Road signal box. The ac electrification was not being used on the Primrose Hill Line as freightliners no longer ran to Maiden Lane.
The second pic is looking back towards the point from which you took your shot, teh large central brick building is teh old rail/canal transhipoment warehouse, which had "LNWR" on the water tower!

I may be an old f*rt, but it was so nice then!

I had a great aunt who lived in Camden until 1980, this looks very familiar.

I was certainly with another railfan, heard the name before. I'd actually gone to Camden for the Felixstowe to T Park which is normally entrusted to a pair of 86s. We were lucky with the Barrington, the sun just came out as it appeared. My shot of the 86s, at Camden Road, was bowled by the Overground.
