Rainy Weekend in Northern Germany
Author: dwatry

Made a quick trip to visit friends in Bremen, Germany last weekend.  Mostly heavy overcast with rain, but managed some photography.  It was Carnival weekend, which I had not rrealized was such a big deal in Germany.  Especially in Koln and Dusseldorf - thousands of people on the trains in all manner of costumes.

1.  Greeted at Koln HBf by a brass band for the Carnival celebration!
2.  Our IC train from Koln to Bremen pulling in to Koln HBf (train continued on to Hamburg).
3.  Metronom regional train at Bremen HBf.  Metronom runs some of the regional services in the region.

4.  Bremen BSAG streetcar in center near Rathaus.
5.  BSAG streetcars at Gropelingen terminal loop.  Three lines terminate at Gropelingen, which also has a large carbarn.
6.  Interior of the rear of a BSAG streetcar - they come with an observation car section!

7.  Combining two of my favorite things - streetcars and street food!  What could be better than a streetcar transfer station complete with a Turkish gyro stand?
8.  DB IC train from Hannover at Sebaldsbruck.
9.  Intermodal train operated by Xpress.de at Sebaldsbruck.

Neat pictures! I hope you got to see and ride some of the Dusseldorf tram lines that are going into the U-Bahn in the centre city in a couple weeks.

Blocking the stairway in the first photo - would never be allowed at BART!

My experience in Germany (3 years in the 60's) was that every weekend in Germany was a rainy weekend, except maybe two each August.

It's great that you were in Germany and i used to live in Bremen so it's nice that someone actually posted stuff in Bremen, Germany not very much action about it here.

Bremen is my favorite city in Germany.  Very livable size city, with great public transport.
