European Railroad Discussion > The coming of IzyDate: 03/29/16 00:23 The coming of Izy Author: 86235 The Independent has a news piece about Thalys launching a low cost service between Paris and Brussels, starting next Sunday. Fares will be as low as €10, although that doesn't guarantee a seat! This is being seen as Thalys reacting to Megabus and other operators who are syphoning off leisure travellers.

Travel time will be over 2 hours instead of the high speed timing of about an hour and a half.

Megabus takes four hours, so two hours is definitely competitive. It sort of reminds me of the Highwayman; a low cost bus competitive service BR ran from Finsbury Park to Newcastle in the 1970s.
