South of the Thames
Author: dwatry

A few random shots from a day spent mostly south of the Thames:

1.  Devon Belle excursion heading west at Vauxhall behind A1 class Pacific Tornado (built new 2008).
2.  EWS 66147 on Dollands Moor Sidings to Daventry train at Clapham Junction.
3.  Same as above.  Train is on track 16, which dives under the mainline and heads north to Latchmere Junction, and then on toward the West Coast Main Line at Willesden Jct.

Great shots.  Thanks for posting.

One opinion though, TORNADO looks better in blue!

Cheers.

Green or blue - either one I find preferable to Southwest Trains candystripes!

That first one is perfect!  Worthy of photo of the day, month, or year!

Must admit I was rather horrified to see it carrying Western Region style reporting numbers, especially as it was routed via the Southern to Exeter.

Jim - thanks!

Nick - maybe that was an attempt at post-grouping unity - an LNER design locomotive operating on former Southern rails with GWR headcodes.  Just need an LMS element to bring it all together!

Every posting is an opportunity to learn something new. I am amazed at not only the quality of British excursion service (great locomotives and equipment from all appearances) but how they operate on what appear to be heavily used trackage. I google mapped Clapham Jct. and learned it is one of the most heavily used areas in Great Britain.

Beautiful. Thanks for your posting.

That first shot is a winner!  Love the industrial backdrop and the flawless trackwork.  So British.  Nice work!

I'm pretty sure Clapham junction is the busiest location on the British network, something ridiculous like a train every few seconds...

Steam trains are pretty popular everywhere but i think that we/the Brits have a particular passion... as we did actually invent them and are a little obsessed with history!
