DB steam in 1969, two types of Mikado's and a 3 cylinder Decapod
Author: eminence_grise

More from my teenage trip to Germany in 1969.

Hof was the main shed for Class 85 2-8-2 tank engines. A standard design introduced in 1923, they were stalwarts as heavy duty branch line engines hauling both freight and local passenger trains.

The locomotive outside the roundhouse at Rheine,German is a standard design 2-8-2 tender locomotive, one of a fleet of over 400.

The 2-10-0 is one of a fleet of 1989 locomotives, manufactured by various builders from the 1920's and into WW2.  Most where three cylinder locomotives.

Those who viewed my ealier post on DB Pacific's will note the hostler wearing sandals while moving the 2-10-0 from the roundhouse to ready tracks at Rheine, Germany.

The 2-8-2 tank engines in the pictures were class 86, not 85.
There was also a heavier version, a prussian design that was class 93.
Those 86's could scoot right right along!

I like the looks of the 044 2-10-0 with a very full tender. That class looks like it is really ready to go to work.
