European Railroad Discussion > Frankfurt Flughafen to Stuttgart Sunday 24 April 2016

Back from my first trip to Germany which also included Poland and Switzerland. Paul Ramer and I landed in Frankfurt walked to the Frankfurt Flugehafen station and took an ICE train 513 to Stuttgart. 
1) Station Board at Frankfurt Flughafen (Airport) Station. The S-Bahn (City) trains usually call at platforms 1,2, and 3 so not sure why they are at 4 on the day we were there.
2) One of the Franfurt S-Bahn trains. The S-Bahn trains vary city to city from subway-like cars to double deck commuter cars. The Frankfurt cars look quite nice though.
3) Another S-Bahn train with ICE 818 to Koln on track 6.

We had some time so I took some more pictures of the station.
4) The rooftop view of the Frankfurt S-Bahn cars and a look at the platform level of the Frankfurt Flughafen (Airport) Station.
5) Upstairs concourse that you enter into from the airport terminal. It takes around a half hour to get through customs and end up here.
6) Like a lot of things in Germany there are signs in English here at the Airport station.

7) The next platform sign is of course in German. The train is signed up for Amsterdam.
8) This is our train ICE 513 to München.
9) Since the train was a few minutes late the signal was already lit for clear. Not sure if the M under the main signal is for the route being lined toward Mannheim or the Mainline.

10) Mannheim has a tram system and S-Bahn trains. Their S-Bahn trains were similar to the Frankfurt S-Bahn trains.
11) Inside the ICE-3 trains are these video monitors that show the speed of the train.
12) I was able to get a box of stickers from the bistro clerk with various cartoon images of the ICE trains much like what is shown here.

Arrived in Stuttgart on time at 10:08 am.
13) Immediately someone came out and washed the windscreen.
14) Departing for Munchin. Stuttgart is stub ended so don't know if our train will run reverse to München or simply back out.
15) Interior of Stuttgart's station much of which is being rebuilt.

It will take a while to get all the pictures from the complete trip posted but I figured I would get a start. It's past time for bed as my body is still on Europe time!

Edit: I had the wrong day in the title. We left the US on Saturday 23rd and arrived Sunday 24th.
